Family Night

Every Monday night we make an attempt to have Family Home Evening. Tonight our lesson was on Service, which was appropriate because we brought dinner to a family tonight who just had a baby recently. I think teaching the kids about service will help them so much. I had them fill out a little questionnaire about things they like, dislike, such as chores, colors, treats etc. Than we folded them all up and each one of us picked a questionnaire. The assignment this week is to perform some sort of service for that person based on the things they wrote on their questionnaire. They seemed to understand the challenge and were eager. I'm sure this will be fairly easy for Emery and I because we just seem to want to get the task done and move onto the next. I predict that Kelci and Bryan will take a little longer. I don't mean that in a bad way, Bryan just gets busy and will take his time. Kelci on the other hand struggles with helping sometimes, so it will be interesting to see if she can come up with an idea. I really enjoy this time we have as a family to teach and talk with one another, it really does bring us closer together. I would love to hear other ideas for Family Home Evening lessons or activities. Please if you have time share some. After the lesson, we enjoyed yummy ice cream cups. Brody, who is the pickiest little guy ever, loved it. I know it sounds strange that a kid would refuse ice cream, but Brody is not like other kids, or least not like my other kids I should say.

Okay, this doesn't have anything to do with the FHE lesson tonight. But earlier today I filled up our little pool from last summer for the kids to play in. This is what is looked like about 45 minutes after the kids were done playing in it. Looks like we are
off to the store to purchase a new one.

Here is a recent picture of my garden. My squash is taking over the whole thing. I noticed that I also have some lettuce growing in my bark...that's a little strange, but OK. It's been a learning experience, but I have really enjoyed the challenge. I would recommend square foot gardening to anyone, especially for the the first time gardener.

Way to go with the garden! It's looking good! When we occasionally have FHE, I look up lessons on this site: http://www.ldslivingmagazine.com/subs/show/6

(You'll have to copy and paste it since I can't figure out how to add the link.) I like it because the lesson is simple for little kids and usually has a game which my kids love. It even has treat ideas if you want that too. It's my favorite one to use.

What a great idea for FHE! We struggle with FHE so much. I guess I oughtta not schedule the kids so much. I'm definitely going to try that questionaire. That's definitely something my girls would like. I also like your square foot gardening. As soon as my backyard gets re-done I think I may try that. I am a sucker for fresh off the vine tomatoes. Weird thing about the lettuce though!

I love that you are able to do a productive FHE. Our attempts at a FHE just end up with Chris and I telling he kids to sit down, or be quiet, or to leave each other alone, or to listen. We hardly even make it to the heart of the lessons. Oh well we are told to keep trying and I will. Only cause you inspire me to!!

Hey what kind of camera did you end up getting again? With Chris and I moving in a couple of weeks, I won't have a camera to use. I always needed to get my own, but never did.

I love your garden!! How fun it is to be able to grow things. Have you eaten anything from it yet?
