This was Emery's first year going to girls camp, and she was so excited. I was really thankful for the chance I had to go and be there to watch her enjoy it. It was a lot different than the camps we went to in California, scenery and everything. But we learned that it doesn't matter where you are the spirit is still there and very strong. We traveled to Heber Valley Camp where you stay in beautiful cabins just feet away from nice bathroom and showers....and get this, there is even an ice machine next to the kitchen. I'm not sure what kind of trees were all around us, they looked like birch trees, but they were so pretty. The meadows were so green and every now and than you would spot a deer resting in the shade...I was just waiting to see a fairy fly out somewhere it was that pretty.
The first day we were there we had a little orientation up by the campfire area. One of the Elders there told us that there were a lot of moose in the area and that we should be mindful of them. I was so excited, I was hoping I could finally see moose (I have been looking my whole life you know). We learned later that day that I was going to take the 4th level girls on an over nighter in Moose Meadow in a couple of days. I told the girls I was so excited because I knew that would see a moose there right?? The night of the over nighter came and we headed out on our short walk to the meadow. We quickly set up our tent in the wind, I might add....wish we had some stakes!! The girls were assigned to go find a good "green" stick (because of all the fire hazards in Utah this summer) for roasting marshmellows. I decided I would just search for a moose, but unfortunately I didn't see any signs of one. The next morning we headed back to camp and straight to the kitchen to help serve breakfast. Emery came running up to me and said, "Mommy, guess what we saw last night....a moose in the volleyball court!" Most of the girls saw it and felt bad that I missed it.....so the search continues....I think we need to camp out in yellowstone next summer ;)
I was so proud of Emery for doing the zip line they had at the ropes course. She climbed the pole like a champ and didn't even stall for very long before taking off on the zip. Go Rose!! I even got to take a ride on the zip, brought back memories of my girls camp experience back in California. I miss those ladies I served with, it was such an up lifting experience for me as much as it was for the girls.
It was a great week at camp, I enjoyed getting to know so many leaders and most importantly the girls, they are awesome. Can't wait until next year!!
