Lake Tahoe

For twelve years now we have been joining Bryan's family for a fun vacation in Lake Tahoe.  I can't believe it has been that long...wow time flies.  Now the family has more than doubled and the tradition continues.  Because we were traveling from Utah and having to drive so far, we decided to stay for most of the week. In the past we have only been able to go 2-3 days at a time.  We had a great time relaxing, playing games, doing absolutely nothing, and playing in the water.

Surprisingly the Lake felt very nice this year, sometimes in the past it has been freezing.  My kids were ready to jump in the same night we arrived in all their clothes.

The kids had so much fun with their cousins.  At one point they were playing frisbee out in the Lake with some of the grown-ups and it was Leah's turn to throw the frisbee.  All of a sudden we look and she has thrown it way out in the Lake....into pretty deep water.  No one could believe she could throw it that far and we all voted Jeannette the one to go and look for it.  It took some people going by on a paddle board to point out where the frisbee was.  Next year we will invest in a floating frisbee for sure.....Jeannette agrees.

For the first time we went with Grandma and Grandpa up to Squaw Valley where the Winter Olympics were held in 1960.  It was very cool to go especially with the summer games about to start soon.  We took a tram all the way up to High Point where a lot of the events took place.

The original Olympic village along with the housing is still standing.  Some of the scenery on the way up to the top was used to create the Big Thunder Mountain ride at Disneyland....can you see the resemblance.

The kids were a little nervous when we got into the Tram....ok maybe Bryan and I were too.  But after we started to climb it became more enjoyable for everyone.

Someone didn't care to be in second place....haha
I Love this picture!  Especially Landry, he thinks sticking his belly out is showing off muscles.  They definitely feel the Olympic spirit.

The kids were loving watching Wipeout on TV.  They were having a blast laughing at everyone.  The next day we hopped onto some rafts and floated down the Truckee river.  This is also something we have never done before.  The weather was amazing and the water felt pretty nice.  The best part of the trip was when Karen fell out of the raft.  I was mentioning that we should stop at the next sand bar and get out for a minute, but I would need  someone to help me stop the raft.  Karen mentioned she had been doing crossfit  lately and was feeling a lot stronger these days.  So I jump out of the boat and start pulling and than I see Karen stand up and go to get out of the boat when all of a sudden she falls in!  Her flip flops went flying and the orr was now floating down the river and everyone was no help because we were all laughing to hard.  I think Chrystina jumped out of her raft and saved the orr.  As for grandma, I'm not even sure if she made it back in the boat or if we just floated down the river for a little bit.

Brody was so excited to practice his kicking with a kick board in the pool.  Craig and Emery had the annual race across the pool....I actually think Emery may have won this time.

Part way through our trip I remember telling Bryan that I couldn't believe no one was sick or anything and was feeling grateful.  I know it's one of those things that can just happen, but I was hoping to make it through the trip without it.  But the night before we left I started to get worried about Cambree.  She had a low grade fever and was complaining her throat was hurting.  I thought well if it's strep there is nothing I can do right except get home and keep her away from people.  So in the morning we quickly packed up and tried to hit the road early.  We took a peek in her throat and I already knew it had gotten worse, so I was glad we were leaving.  Cambree was pretty quiet in the car, but was struggling to swallow her saliva.  Four hours into the ride, she began to throw-up, and really couldn't stop.  Cambree had already had a rough summer with nausea  in fact she lost 5lbs because of it. Now I was beginning to worry.  I had no idea what was wrong, but I knew we just needed to get home, so we kept driving.  She was miserable, we felt so bad.  Shortly after we arrived home, I took her to urgent care and they confirmed she had strep, but that she also had scarlet fever.  The scarlet fever was causing the nausea and she also had a rash all over her torso.  The dr. sent us home with medicine and orders to keep her in for a couple of days.  She felt better in the morning, but it did take a couple of days to feel like herself again.  Besides this we had a great week with everyone that was there.  It was hard to say goodbye, knowing it would be awhile before we would see everyone again.
