Grocery Shopping

I really don't enjoy grocery shopping, it might be because of where I choose to shop, or the fact that I don't like coming up with a weekly menu, and that I have had a few failed meals lately so that doesn't boost my confidence either. All I know is I'm great at coming up with excuses to not going.

So tonight I thought I would try something a little different and invite the family along to help. Well, actually it was more like bribe them with dinner at Strings and than tell them they were coming along later. I don't usually take anyone to the store with me, but I thought this just might help motivate me.

So before we left for dinner I wrote out Bryan's half of the list, which covered mostly cold items and bread. I had to laugh at Kelci though, because she hates going to the store because it is so cold in there. Right as we are walking in she says,"oh no I forgot my sweater." I tried to tell her that Daddy was going to be shopping in the cold section so she might want to stick with me, but she said no and went with him. Bryan said she was dancing all around trying to keep warm.

I don't know how Bryan did it, but he had is shopping list done within 10 minutes and of course he had to brag about it. So I came up with a few other things for him to go grab to keep him busy while I finished up my section. I pointed out to him that my list was not complete, his was because I knew I would have to list every little item so he would know exactly what to get. My list was produce, can goods, dinner items, and snacks. Those items take a little more time I think becaue you have to be picky, plus check out the snack deals. I have to say it definately made shopping more exciting having everyone there to help. We finished in about 35 minutes which is a record for me.

I also figured out that Bryan was counting on Kelci to help retreive a lot of his items. He told her one time to get the Danimals off the shelf and Kelci was just standing there gazing at all the yogurt. He realized than that the drinks were on the top shelf and she wasn't going to be able to reach them. Plus I let him know that she doesn't know what a danimals is, we always call them yogurt drinks ;) Than I discovered that Bryan picked up hotdog buns instead of hamburger buns when I got home and was putting everything away, he blamed it on Kelci....yeah right!!

I have not always been a big fan of grocery shopping due to the kids. However, since moving to Scottsdale, there is a grocery store called Basha's that offers free child care up to 90 mins while you shop. There is even a bakery and sitting area if you choose to take extra time. IT is great! I love it now!

I went grocery shopping last weekend for the first time in a really long time without Diana and let me tell you how liberating it was. One of the Raley's clerks couldn't believe I was there by myself. I got so much more accomplished and I wasn't nearly as distracted.
